Discover the Wonder of the Body, Emotions and Health

The 5 elements
& the human body

Meet the organs as living characters, discover how your body works, learn about emotions, meridians, and health, and uncover the wisdom your body shares every day.

Through enchanting stories, beautiful illustrations, biology lessons, creative activities, and body awareness exercises, children and adults learn to understand the connections between organs, emotions, energy, and wellbeing.

A unique learning experience where science, storytelling, and self-awareness come together.

A Unique Combination of Biology, Storytelling, and Body Awareness.

A Unique Combination of
Biology, Storytelling, and Body Awareness

Why do we get butterflies in our stomach when we feel nervous?

Why do some children feel tension in their shoulders, belly, or head?

What does the liver actually do? Why do we have a gallbladder? How do our lungs, heart, and kidneys work?

And what are these organs trying to tell us?

The 5 Elements is a unique book series and online learning environment that introduces children to the workings of their bodies in a playful, engaging, and accessible way.

Through stories, illustrations, biology lessons, movement activities, and creative exercises, children discover how organs work together, how emotions can be expressed through the body, and how to better understand and listen to their own signals.

In this way, a bridge is created between knowledge, self-awareness, and wellbeing.

Where Biology Comes to Life

In many science classes, children memorize the names of organs.

But what if those organs also had a story?

What if children could meet the Liver as the Magical Gardener?

The Gallbladder as the Brave Compass Keeper?

The Heart as the King of Fire?

The Lungs as the Silver Wing Guardians?

And the Kidneys as the Keepers of the Source of Life?

By connecting scientific knowledge with storytelling, children not only learn how their bodies function, but also develop a deeper relationship with themselves. Biology becomes not only something to study, but something to experience.

The Five Elements

as a Compass for Learning

The learning environment is built around five natural forces that help children understand the connections between the body, health, emotions, and personal growth.

Wood Element

Discover how the Liver, the Magical Gardener, and the Gallbladder, the Brave Compass Keeper, work together to support growth, creativity, direction, and decision-making.

Fire Element

Meet the Heart, King of the Fire of Life, and the Small Intestine, the Wise Sorter. Together they teach children about joy, connection, enthusiasm, and following their heart.

Earth Element

Get to know the Stomach, the Great Receiver, and the Spleen, the Caring Treasure Keeper. They show how nourishment, energy, security, and trust create a strong foundation.

Metal Element
The Lungs and the Large Intestine teach children how to breathe, feel, let go, and create space for new experiences.

Water Element

The Kidneys and the Bladder help children discover their inner strength, courage, resilience, and ability to recover and grow.

The 5 Elements supports multiple learning areas at the same time. Children discover:

  • the functions of major organs and organ systems
  • how food is transformed into energy
  • how oxygen is transported throughout the body
  • how waste products are processed and eliminated
  • how the body continuously strives to maintain balance

  • how emotions can be expressed through the body
  • how stress, tension, and relaxation influence wellbeing
  • how to better recognize the signals their body is sending
  • how to develop greater confidence and resilience

Experiences with Butterfly Brain Learning

Butterfly Brain Learning is a deeply transformative process – Annelien, mother of Rosalie, 6y

Butterfly Brain Learning brought us so much more than just learning letters. On a deep level, it connected us with our essence and helped us better understand earthly mechanisms. By walking this path together, we have developed a deeper understanding of each other and created a harmonious space where learning truly becomes a magical process.

Sometimes, you just know deep inside that you're about to find an important key—an answer to a question that has been living in you for a long time. For me and my daughter Rosalie, who was just about to start first grade, Butterfly Brain Learning was exactly that key.

The months leading up to September 1st, I felt an undefined restlessness. We were incredibly happy at our free-spirited, playful Freinet school, where children learn with open hearts and full enthusiasm. And yet… something felt missing. I noticed how Rosalie kept struggling with the flat, rational 3D way of thinking. While her deep philosophical insights flowed effortlessly and her loving nature blossomed, she just couldn't seem to grasp the purely practical learning material.

My intuition was confirmed when, in the first few weeks, she had trouble remembering separate letters—letters without deeper meaning or a larger, connected story.

💡 And then we discovered Butterfly Brain Learning.

Suddenly, every letter became an adventure. With wide, sparkling eyes, Rosalie soaked up the stories, feeling them on every level. And every single day, I heard:

“Just one more video, Mom?”

The first letter, Ikkerdetik, made an unforgettable impression. Whenever someone at home got angry or "exploded," I’d hear the kids instinctively say:

🌬️ "Breathe in, breathe out, place your feet on the ground, and make a sound..."

Again and again, I was amazed at how clearly they understood the deeper layers.

"You just want to be heard and seen… and you’re afraid that no one understands you."

Truth from the mouth of a child.

They effortlessly integrated these insights into their daily lives. They also instinctively grasped the difference between the ego version (I-bomb) and the higher version (Isa) of each letter. More than that—they realized they had a choice in how they responded. And they could articulate it perfectly to us, their parents!

Learning with the heart, thinking in stories, living in connection.

Children discover a deeper layer of themselves through Butterfly Brain Learning, in a playful and natural way without losing their authenticity, – Anouk van Rooij-Sjardin, Play Therapy & Developmental Coach

I find it truly beautiful and remarkable how effortlessly you weave the multidimensional with the earthly and practical, in a way that deeply resonates with children.

Butterfly Brain Learning creates a space where emotions take shape, supported by mental clarity that opens the door to growth and understanding. The foundation of it all? Unconditional love and acceptance.

Thank you for your perseverance, vision, and love in this pioneering work.

The Butterfly Brain Learning course is a beautiful gift to yourself. I understand my daughter better. I can truly connect with her emotional and mental world. And now, I can say that I see the child within me again—every day a little more. Elke, mother of Nimbe (6 y.o.)

During my pregnancy with Nime, the Covid pandemic broke out. That was when the idea of homeschooling started to grow.

The idea of following your child’s natural rhythm and allowing more space for free expression and connection with nature really spoke to me.

At that perfect moment, Briony crossed my path. I followed the Rainbow Talent Plan and the energetic training.

I thought my journey was complete… until Briony told me about Butterfly Brain Learning. Her eyes lit up, and I felt butterflies in my stomach.

At that point, my daughter Nime had just started preschool, but I immediately saw Butterfly Brain Learning as a beautiful complement, a real enrichment for her.

Now I know: it’s a journey of discovery you take together.

I understand my daughter better, I can deeply connect with her feelings and thoughts.

And honestly? I might be the one who needed these lessons the most 🙂

The letter lessons appear light and joyful, but if you truly feel into them as an adult, so much comes to the surface—your own fears, patterns, insecurities, self-sabotaging thoughts. Everything that was still stored as unprocessed emotion in my body was allowed to come out.

And now I can say I see the child in me again—every day a little more.

And it feels wonderful. That freedom. That playfulness. That joy. That sincere wonder for all the beauty around me

In short: the Butterfly Brain Learning course is a beautiful gift to yourself.

This training, with seemingly small tasks, is a true gem. Sabine Baeyens, Qigong Sensory Therapy - Make Children Better. The online assignments and tasks, which gradually guide you deeper into the subject, have a much deeper impact than I could have ever imagined. I move from lesson to lesson at my own pace—it's wonderful, no pressure, no obligations.

Experiences of participants

Butterfly Brain Learning is a wonderful and connecting challenge that I undertake together with my almost 6-year-old daughter. I use it as inspiration for homeschooling, and it provides me with both structure and a clear framework to work within. It is a playful and exploratory journey towards free and intuitive learning that inspires us both immensely.

Through this method, I not only learn a lot about my daughter, but also about myself and the way I present learning materials or have learned things myself. It constantly encourages me to fully trust my daughter's intrinsic learning system, which strengthens her confidence in learning.

Wherever we go, we build little fairy houses, and we dance and sing together in the living room. The magic symbols are becoming more and more present in our daily lives, and the excitement for the next new letter grows every time.

Sometimes I think it would be wonderful to do these exercises together with more children. This is something I definitely want to implement in our homeschooling group in the future.

The combination of movement, play, and multisensory learning not only helps me work more creatively with the children I support but also benefits me personally.

The extra live days bring a deeper connection that is hard to describe but gives me a lot of energy and joy.

Today, Saga started talking about Butterfly Brain learning all by herself. She really wanted to watch a video, so we watched Binalu the dolphin (letter b). We wrote the letter together, and recently, while walking through a center, she recognized several letters on the building’s facade. I’m so incredibly proud of her — she’s almost 3 and can already write and recognize several letters with both hands.

My 5-year-old son has fewer anger outbursts and can calm himself more easily using the Butterfly Brain breathing techniques.

— Renate

Since we started with Butterfly Brain Learning, I’ve noticed that Bas not only gets to fully express his curiosity, but he also finds emotional calm. He’s naturally very eager to learn—asking endless questions since he was little because he truly wants to understand everything. He absolutely loves the letter symbols: crafting them, recognizing them, doing worksheets, watching the flash videos… he’s so enthusiastic about it all.

But what touches me most is how the songs and stories help him come back to himself. He sings some of the songs spontaneously several times a day—the breathing song is a real hit. They give him insight, but also bring peace to his system. He’s learning to better express what he feels and is starting to consciously breathe more calmly.

He enjoys working with the 'mask', although I notice he still takes things very literally. When I tell him to “feel where the ball is,” he starts looking for it with his hands. Explaining abstract things like that can still be a bit tricky.

He tends to avoid the dances, finger exercises, or giving massages—though he really enjoys receiving them. And closing his eyes or imagining things is still not comfortable for him.

Still, I can see how much he gets out of it, in his own way. He’s growing not only in knowledge, but also in self-confidence and inner calm. That’s incredibly valuable to me as a parent.
